Glass Candy; Wrongbar: November 7th

I love electronic music, disco, house or whatever you wish to call it. This isn't to say I don't love folk music, pop music or anything else, i like to think that I love music, regardless of classification.

Regardless, I really love Glass Candy. There are one of 25 bands making america cool again according to NME. They feel fresh, very much like Hercules and Love Affair; rejuvenating disco.

Kraftwerk did an awesome remix of Computer Love. It was not one of those situations were you find the original unbearable, I would love to listen to either recording.

So hit up their myspace, read, form your own opinion.

Glass Candy will be playing Wrongbar in Toronto on November 7th. Presented by Hot Blood and Italians Do It Better, the evening also features Parallels, Mikey Apples, DJ Vaneska, and Juicetan.

Limited $10 advance tickets available at Rotate This, Soundscapes, Play De Record and wantickets.com, as well as at the door.

Hospital Ships; Oh, Ramona

Hospital Ships is Jordan Geiger of Lawrence, Kansas based band Minus Story (Jagjaguwar). He also plays trumpet and keyboards, all the while recording refresh pop-tunes for his new side-project.

He is playing east coast dates to promote his debut Oh, Ramona, out October 21st on Graveface Records. This fall he will be playing with Shearwater, and Black Moth Super Rainbow.

Here is an adorable video for his song Baby for J., The whole handycam thing might make a couple of you dizzy, I find it all a little charming.

These songs are very fun, interesting, and refreshing. I wouldn't be able to handle another afro-jazz-pop group, a la Vampire Weekend. Hospital Ships' music has a distinctive soundscape. Listen.

Antony & The Johnsons; Another World EP

Antony Hegarty is my love, he just doesn't know it. Since his Mercury Prize winning I Am A Bird Now, He has been featured on Bjork's Volta, appeared in I'm Your Man, and recorded for the Bob Dylan biopic I'm Not There, and most importantly in the world of blogs was featured with Hercules and Love Affair. Like Bjork, the first time I heard him I was confused by his gender, and his race. His gift is incredible. I often sit in my room jokingly trying to sound like him. Is this something worth doing? I'm not quite sure, but time passes.

His Another World EP is released tomorrow on CD, 12", as well as in a digital format. The full-length successor The Crying Light will be released in January 2009.

Tracklist:

1. Another World
2. Crackagen
3. Shake That Devil
4. Sing For Me
5. Hope Mountain

The Happy Hollows; Imaginary EP

The Happy Hollows make noisy pop. noisy, cheerful, energetic, more than a little dark, mesmerizing. Instant comparisons to Karen O. Their Imaginary EP will be released on the 21st of the month and I am very excited. I hope the other tracks are as good as Lieutenant, and Tambourine, and what about an LP? Someone should demand one of those.

I have yet to listen to Deerhoof's Offend Maggie but I can't believe it would be all that different from these tracks. The instrumentals on these two tracks remind me of seeing Deerhoof playing live, pounding the shit out of their instruments. It was one of those moments were people weren't moved by her, but i could watch her Panda. Panda. Panda. endlessly.

Mp3's: The Happy Hollows - Lieutenant ; The Happy Hollows - Tambourine

Let the Happy Hollows have some more views on their myspace, they deserve it.
